Many companies struggle with Facebook posting thumbnail images when you add the URL (https://www.mycompany.com). Additionally, absent correct code in the header of your website, Facebook will select for you.
To provide Facebook with instructions to correctly post the thumbnail image you would like, custom Title and Description along with the image follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Create your thumbnail. Recommended size is 300×300 with a 200×200 minimum. Recommend .jpg file.
Step 2: Add to between your <head> </head> tags the following code:
Add link re=”image_src” path
<link rel=”image_src” href=”https://www.location-of-facebook-thumb-300×300.jpg” /> (replace the url with path to your custom thumbnail)
Add OG: meta properties for URL, image, title, description
<meta property=”og:url” content=”https://www.mycompany.com/” />
<meta property=”og:image” content=”https://www.location-of-facebook-thumb-300×300.jpg” /> (replace the url with path to your custom thumbnail)
<meta property=”og:title” content=”Title to appear on Facebook Max 70 Characters” />
<meta property=”og:description” content=”Description to appear on Facebook Max 200 Characters” />
Go to the Facebook Object Debugger and input the URL. You should see clean results as shown below. Any errors will be shown and provided allowing you to fix.
